Let's Play
KoKo had just gotten out the shower, put on her pajama set, and laid across her bed. She had been running for weeks, and the comfort of her pillow top mattress felt like heaven. She closed her eyes, took a few deep breaths, and began dozing off. Just as sleep began to settle in, her phone vibrated on the nightstand. She started not to even move, but with all the shit that had been going on, she figured she should at least check the ID. She grabbed the phone and looked at the screen. “Shit!” It was Boa. She reluctantly answered, still upset with him for that bullshit he had been pulling.
“Yes,” she said drowsily into the phone.
“Get dressed. I’m about to come get you.”
KoKo could hear his car radio playing like it was the middle of the afternoon. From what she could guess, he was close. “Boa. I’m sleepy. Let me get at you tomorrow.”
“Nah, ma. I need to see you. I got that package.”
“Boa, tomorrow.”
“It ain’t up for discussion. I’ll be there in a minute.” He hung up.
KoKo looked at the phone, threw it across the bed, and laid her head down. Closing her eyes, she started to let that nigga come over for nothing. But as the seconds ticked on, she thought, fuck it! She jumped up and put on a short skirt, a T-shirt, and a pair of Pajar boots. She tucked her gun in the gun holster in the small of her back. Then she combed her hair, brushed her teeth, grabbed a wad of money and headed to the door. When she reached the living room, her cell started vibrating. “I’m coming,” she stated in the phone with a slight attitude.
“Hurry up,” he shot back and then hung up.
“This muthafucka love to hang up on people,” she said and opened the door.
When she emerged from the building, Boa was sitting in his car, music bumping and pulling on a blunt, looking sexy as usual.
KoKo stood by the car and looked at him. Boa turned slowly toward the window, looked her up and down and then hit the locks.
“Why the fuck you ain’t open the door?” she blurted as she slid in the seat and slammed the door.
“Don’t be slamming my shit. Learn to have some patience,” Boa said.
“Look, you called me out in the middle of the fucking night. I could have been in my bed.”
“I’ma make it worth your while.” He smiled at her as he looked down at those sexy legs. Before he pulled off, he reached in his glove box and handed her an envelope full of money. KoKo took it and laid it on her lap. Boa gave her that sneaky grin, and shifted the gear into drive and pulled off, tires screeching.
As they drove block after block, KoKo sat back and relaxed. She took in all the New York nightlife. People were still scurrying back and forth, and so were the many cars and taxi’s speeding and blowing their horns.
